Four Fresh Remixes

Edits with some serious firepower. Get it?

Starters DJs are impressing me with pretty much everything they do. They are a duo from Chicago, that, much like Soulwax / 2 Many DJs, do remixes and mash-ups. It’s a fast paced journey through genres including hip-house, Bmore club and electro. I honestly can’t get enough. Here’s a take on the Hey Champ DJs song, In the White City.

Also, check this ill mashup from their new mixtape, Sex On The Dancefloor, available @ the myspace.

I realize that I am long overdue for an extensive MSTRKRFT post, probably because remix is totally insane!!! I have never even thought about how a remix of someone like John Legend would turn out, unless it had the same beat but with a new Kanye verse or something. The lyrics actually compliment a dance-oriented song quite well, and mstrkrft adds their killer synth and bass for a truly unbeatable combination.

So Lovefoxxx from CSS was hit by a flying shoe from the crowd at a show in Brighton recently, and they had to end the show. That really sucks. This isn’t a Sum 41 concert people, if you’re going to throw stuff onstage during a good show, make sure you don’t hit anyone! That being said, CSS recently crafted a really neat remix of that new Bloc Party song Mercury. I didn’t care for the original version, but CSS threw in some dope synth and a nice drum beat and changed the song’s dynamic completely! I really dig this reversion. New Bloc Party album, Intimacy, out this Thursday! Exciting.

A New National Anthem

America has spoken. And it says, I fucking love Paper Planes!!!! Congrats to M.I.A. & Diplo, who have a certified U.S. top 5 hit on their hands. And the song is like a year old!! The fact that the trailer for a very funny movie, Pineapple Express uses it may be why it’s catching on so late. But ever since Kala dropped, people all over have been putting their hands in the air (in the shape of a glock) and following along to Paper’s killer chorus. I mean, it’s delivery is so blunt, so gangster, that people just love it. And it’s the #4 most downloaded song on itunes right now, I just checked. I remember back to an AM show not too long ago, when he mixed Paper Planes into his set. When the sample from The Clash’s Straight to Hell began to filter in, everyone in the crowd lost their fucking minds! This song has something that people from all over can connect with, which is so cool! Big ups to Diplo for crafting such a banger, and to M.I.A. for delivering those lovely, carefree words, giving it some international flavor that no American rappers can match (although Bun B and Rich Boy come pretty close, check the remix EP). Go ahead, M.I.A. Take that money!

Esau Mwamwaya – Tengazako (Radioclit Edit)    <—Samples the paper planes beat, is incredibly dope. Go Malawi!!!

…And Justice For All

18 08 2008

I hate to start this thing off with some potentially upsetting news, but according to a recent Pitchfork.com interview with our boys, Justice is putting the brakes on those kick-ass remixes they are known so well for. Thats right, Gaspard and X are going to focus in on working with friends and Ed Banger labelmates for the time being. This is kind of a bummer, because I was way into their remixes. Their heavy bass hits and pop orchestration added some insane disco flavor to songs that I would have otherwise passed right over. However, I can see why they would want to quit the remixing. Editing popular songs is a good way of getting your name out there, building hype, but that shit doesn’t really bring in any cash money. All I can say is that Justice has done their thing so far, and hot damn! they have done it well. Just don’t stop making music, guys. Now that would straight kill me. Here are some fond memories in .mp3 form to ease the pain…

MGMT – Electric Feel (Justice Remix)

Hey! I like music so much that I need two blogs to handle all of it! I want to thank everyone who visited and checked up on Get Air, you guys are lovely. I felt that Get Air was more about life and all types of music. THE DANCE IS BOGUS is all party, all the time. We like to hold it down on the dance floor. How you do?

Thanks,
